Working construction down here in SW FL.-I've been pouring water over my head daily before it was "viral"-but I don't record it.

Re: I gotta say -

Well, since you asked -

#2 on the list is direct deposit. That had to be the brainchild of some mad biatch that never wanted her husband to have any rathole money ever again in his life.

Coming in at #1 are those forking roundabouts. I would like to meet the pinheaded geek faced engineer who invented them so I could kick him right in his toddler seed pouch.

But this is about #3...not #2 or #1. Give some damn money to ALS if you want but don't make me watch 50-11 people pouring water on their head as a damn instant coupon.

Ah yes... MoDot's roundabouts.

These are the same people that, down here, gave us the J Turns on Hy 63 and the tri-level interchange of Hy's 50, 63,and 54 in JC. More fun to watch at rush hour than a drunks only demolition derby.

I like the roundabouts, especially at 50/McCarty in Jeff City.

There are goobers who stop and wait/look, even when no other vehicles are in sight, but it's still faster than waiting for a stop light to change.

Who has time to go to a damn bank. I'm 6 hours from my bank on Friday afternoon and the last thing I want to do on Saturday morning is hit a bank so some bastard can put a 3 day hold on a check because its over a certain amount.

Try wearing the pants in the family once and telling your ol lady how, where, and Why you will spend you paycheck. Been working in this household since 1995.

Re: I gotta say -

Dabs, seriously, WTF??? Direct deposit is one of the greatest things to ever come along. You get your money faster and you eliminate trips to the bank. It seems like I don't have time for chit any more. Between the direct deposit and the on-line bill paying, there are two less things to eat up time. As soon as they figure out how to fill my gas tank on-line, I will never got to a gas station again!!

I go though about a dozen round-a-bouts in a year's time. I never thought about getting pizzed-off about it. Maybe I need to rethink my casual attitude about these menaces to society. It has to be some sort of conspiracy right?

Ok, let's say a hand wants to buy a new gun but needs his next paycheck to do so. With direct deposit, he's sitting at the gun shop when they open the doors and walks out with his new gun, shortly thereafter. The old school fossils that feel the need to stand in a line at the bank, have to wait until the bank opens, deposit the paper check that will have a hold put on it for at least one day, probably 3 to 5. He gets to the gun store the next week for his new gun. And as luck would have it, the cold front came through Thursday night and Friday, so he misses the opportunity to whack some new ducks with his new gun.

Embrace direct deposit. Its all gooood...

Re: I gotta say -

My wife's business account was hacked last fall in the Target devot card scandal. It took the bank 2 days to return the money........still faster than the 3-4 day hold they place on a payroll check. Stop using your debit card at porn shops or strip clubs and some stripper won't be buying a disk or a Halloween costume.

You also realize you can go to the bank on Friday AM since the DD was put in at midnight..................and they will give you your entire paycheck in cash for you to go squirrel it away in a mason jar in the potato patch. Then when you die, all your money is lost and your grab kids don ha enough money to bury your dead carcass squirrel money is good....but not all of it

For a dude who hates modern technology.............you sure do love it when it comes to duck hunting

Re: I gotta say -

I can't really biatch about direct deposit. Actually, I have no choice.

But, I understand Flock's point. There was something satisfying about being handed a check on Friday.

I miss taking deer to a check station as well.

The end result hasn't changed in either case, but it reflects how things have become disconnected and impersonal.

Re: I gotta say -

There's something satisfying about going to the marsh without seeing a flashing strobe light blind you for the day too......but that chit is a thing of the past also. IF I can't have a spinner free marsh.......folks should have to get direct deposit. And if your ol lady don't let you spend your money, get a new ol lady. Then the old one gets half of it and the new one can tell you how to spend whats left.

who in their right mind when married buys weapons or shells out of general funds? Do you really want someone seeing the real price of stuff? Hence the issue with hiding rat-hole monies earned with OT, holiday pay etc....

Re: I gotta say -

I was married for 16 years. Money was never an issue. We both put a certain amount in the " house fund " each month, and there was never an argument or questions over the remaining income.

My dislike of the way things are now has more to do with the lack of things tangible. Things that are assumed, implied, or digitized still seem to carry less weight in my mind.
